Visit Estes Park
Estes Park’s site at the base of Rocky Mountain National Park delights locals and visitors with sweeping vistas, a vibrant downtown, and abundant wildlife. Both a natural and small-town gem, the area’s other claim-to-fame is The Stanley Hotel, featured in the horror classic The Shining. Whether you make your heart race from a hike in the Rockies or by taking the hotel’s ghost tour, Estes Park provides multiple avenues of fun.

Rocky Mountain National Park
Rocky Mountain National Park has it all, including 8,000 foot elevations in the wetlands to more than 14,000 feet at top of Longs Peak. Late summer features alpine blooms and autumn provides the backdrop for the elk rut. Our favorite activities: scenic drives, wildlife watching, picnicking, fishing, horseback riding, driving Old Fall River Road or across Trail Ridge Road (the highest continuous highway in the US). Visit the Alpine Visitor Center (open May-Oct.) or hit the trails for snowshoeing (Oct-April). Pro tip: summer and autumn are high-traffic months. Visit Rocky Mountain National Park to learn the ideal times to hit the trails, the most up-to-date weather information, and the ranger-led activities.

Horseback Riding and Ranches
Take a trail ride to spot elk, deer, or coyote as you wind through the park on horseback. Many local stables and ranches offer tours from short, guided jaunts to 9-hour excursions to channel your inner rancher. Let the Rockies wow your sense of wonder as you connect with nature.

Fishing and Water Fun
Hook trout, bass, sunfish, salmon and more at one of the area’s fishing offerings. Popular spots include Big Thompson River, Fall River, and Marys Lake. Rocky Mountain National Park features spots like Mills Lake with its trout, suckers, and sculpin. Colorado fishing laws apply, so make sure your license is up-to-date. If your day includes kayaking, boating, and fishing, check out Lake Estes Marina for days of water-filled adventure.

Hiking
Spend the morning with the family hiking the family-friendly Bear Lake Trail or drink in the Rockies along the moderate Gem Lake Trail. Up the fitness and get your workout in alongside Dream Lake and Nymph Lake when you traverse the Emerald Lake Trail. Rocky Mountain National Park has hikes accessible for multiple abilities. No matter the trail, the Rocky Mountain majesty will be right there with you. With 365 miles of extraordinary hiking trails, amazing day trips, and incredible wildlife and views, discover all the park’s majesty. Wildlife lectures, stargazing from Trail Ridge Road, and a kids’ junior ranger program add to the park’s adventure!

Dining
Family fare to upscale dining to everything in between, Estes Park offers no shortage of culinary delights. Taste tacos at one of the town’s Mexican restaurants, sip local craft beers at area brew pubs, or feast on local game in a cabin-like experience. Wherever your taste buds demand you go, the town’s food scene offers an abundance of delights.

Estes Park Museum
With more than 30,000 objects ranging from historic photographs, postcards, archives, textiles, artwork, furniture, tools, and even a Stanley Steamer automobile, this free museum lets visitors walk with history through collections of its historic newspapers, photographs, and oral history collection.

Estes Park Memorial Observatory
Gaze into the night sky though the facilities’ 16-foot dome and wonder at the mysteries of the universe. Observatory visits only occur on certain evenings and are never held two days before and on the night of the full moon–too bright! Sessions are limited to 14 people, so visit the observatory’s website for booking information.

The Stanley Hotel
Though most would not want to enter the world of Stephen King’s The Shining, you can take a ghost tour through The Stanley Hotel, which served as the exterior for the film’s Overlook Hotel. Check out this piece of movie history, and, if you’re feeling brave, peek in the “spirited” rooms for more intrepid visitors. All horror aside, the hotel’s restaurant offers sweeping views overlooking the mountain vistas.

Historic Park Theater
Maybe a rainy day has you thinking about indoor fun or you just have to see Hollywood’s latest release. The Park Theatre, built in 1913, is the oldest continuously running movie theater in the United States. Watch the latest blockbuster while fantasizing about the more than 100 years of cinema goers who have entered the space.

Nightlife
Estes Park’s laid-back vibe carries over into its nightlife. Multiple breweries let patrons sample local stouts, porters, and IPAs. Look for live music at area bars or at summertime festivals.

Downtown Estes Park
Nature meets commerce in downtown Estes Park, which features more than 200 restaurants, shops, and attractions. Don’t be shocked if an elk comes strolling by as you sample an ice cream cone from a downtown creamery or sip a glass of wine. The Big Thompson River and Fall River snake through downtown, so be sure to stroll along the Riverwalk to enjoy the fountains, bridges, and statues.

Be Prepared
No matter the season, here are some pro tips to help you plan:
- Wear sunscreen

- Leave No Trace

Weather
The weather in Colorado can be unpredictable all year round. Be sure to plan ahead for cold and hot temperatures no matter the season! Yes, we have seen it snow in July and yes, it has been t-shirt weather well into late October. All in all, though there can be extremes, the weather is nearly always comfortable especially in the mountains.

Property Damage Waiver
Enjoy peace-of-mind with our incidental damage protection.
SkyRun includes a property damage protection waiver on each reservation. The damage waiver covers damage to the property up to $1,500 so long as the damage is accidental and reported to SkyRun prior to your departure. It does not cover damage that is willful, the result of negligence, or damaged caused by the misuse of household items. It also doesn’t cover unreported damage. SkyRun doesn’t charge our guests a refundable damage deposit in lieu of the waiver. Unlike a refundable damage deposit, the damage protection waiver is nonrefundable.
If during your rental of our property, you damage the real or personal property assigned to that property, SkyRun will cover the cost of repairs or the cost to replace the property up to an amount not to exceed $1,500. Should the cost of the damage exceed $1,500 or does not meet the criteria for a “covered loss”, and the property owner’s insurance policy also does not cover the loss, then you shall be responsible for the full amount of the damage which will be charged to the credit card on file. Coverage is provided to you and all traveling companions that are staying in the home overnight during your stay.
Coverage is not provided for loss due to:
- Your intentional acts or gross negligence.
- Any damage that occurs if you are in violation of the terms and conditions (including but not limited to having more than maximum occupancy or having a party).
- Loss, theft or damage to any personal effects owned by you or brought on the covered stay by you.
- Loss, theft or damage caused by any person other than you or your traveling companions with whom you share the property reservation unless substantiated by a police report.
Your Duties in the Event of Damage. You must:
- Take all reasonable, necessary steps to protect the property and prevent further damage to it.
- Report the loss in writing (email ok) prior to check-out to the SkyRun staff.
- Provide us documentation such as pictures to substantiate the claim.
